Before I start complaining about the weather, let me say that I had a terrific weekend. So, I will detail it for you vis-a-vis le bullet:

- Friday night, we went to the 99. My husband is obsessed with the 99, so off we went. We didn’t really do a whole hell of a lot else, I had gone downtown for a bit after work on Friday after leaving early to get a manicure and a swap gift for the blog girls holiday brunch girls day out on Saturday morning. I should have, however, incorporated getting a birthday gift for my husband into that afternoon but alas, I did not. Read the rest of this entry »

So yesterday was my husband’s birthday, and I did make the trek in sub zero temperatures to the grocery store to get all of the makings for his birthday cake. I had found a recipe for flourless chocolate cake in my favorite cookbook, and it turned out so awesome, better than I had expected. We also had my famous veggie chili (from the same cookbook, as it turns out) and a nice evening, until the Patriots lost, and there was much swearing to be heard in Cambridge. I’ve been up since about 9 - we slept in, well - I guess “slept” might not be the best terminology ;) Anyhow, my husband is out and about doing errands for me right now. I’ve been cooking all morning, spinach quiches for my parents house, and I’m taking a quick house cleaning break. I wish I knew where all the dust comes from. I mean, I know we live in the city and I can understand all the dust in the summertime when we have all the windows open, but damn its dusty up in here. Read the rest of this entry »

Due to the ridiculous amounts of snow yesterday, I took the day off and stayed home. Well, I stayed home in the morning. Then around 9, we ventured out to dig out our cars. Love on-street parking in the city. My car was seriously plowed in, so I shoveled the snow around it, and yes, some of it ended up back in the street. Luckily, my car has all wheel drive, so with minimal effort I drove right out. Having the far superior car won me the pleasure of being the one who went out to get coffee and bagels, while my husband continued to shovel out and around his car. Read the rest of this entry »

Now where have I left off? Oh yes, procrastination junction, how I know thee well. I’m still not finished with my report, but tomorrow’s my deadline so there you go. Mr. P will take Charlotte to school tomorrow while I drop off my car to get the brakes done. I will be house-bound for most of the day with no vehicle, so finish my report I will. I basically have no choice and the house is squeaky clean. I’m also waiting for a fax which I need in order to make further progress so here we are, blogging. Read the rest of this entry »

So it’s Friday, my most favorite day of the week. Why favorite? Friday equals post-bedtime weekly manicure and take-out sushi for dinner. Man, I look forward to Friday all week long. Also on Friday? I have a glass (or two) of wine. I’ve been trying to abstain all week and only drink on the weekends, and that’s been going pretty well. I like to make exceptions, though - I’ll have a mid-week drink if I’m not at home. For example, I met Krista for dinner on Monday night and for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to order a martini. I hadn’t had a martini since probably oh, October or so and it definitely knocked me on my ass. Cheap date. Anyway, last night I found myself ogling our wine rack, trying to decide which bottle I’d open tonight. Mr. P does the wine shopping and he likes to buy mixed cases. In so doing, he usually throws in a few bottles we haven’t yet tried. I’ve got it narrowed down to a Columbia Valley cab and an old reliable Rhone red. It’s 8:41am and I’m already thinking about wine! Read the rest of this entry »

Sunday afternoon and I’m winding down the weekend - and getting ready for my first official day at my new job. For those of you who emailed and commented - yes, of COURSE I have a new outfit all picked out. Come on now, was that even remotely a question? I actually have two picked out, and I think the final choice will be a game time decision, depending on how I feel when I wake up in the morning and also depending on how the morning goes trying to get the three of us organized. Before I start the salmon, I remembered two things I wanted to tell you.

1. Re: Boden. FYI, Boden runs EXTRAORDINARILY large. In my opinion, anyway. Maybe I’m just used to wearing crappily cut clothes from Banana Republic or something, long story short, I ordered three skirts and I have to send two of them back. The one I got on sale I can make work. Worst case scenario, I can have the buttons moved over. The two skirts I am sending back just aren’t right. Really really well made, but a little flimsy for work, I think, and not quite as A-line as I had hoped. Plus, I should probably have ordered talls instead of their regular length. I like my knees covered at work, so back they go. I’m looking at the catalog online again and I think I’m going to exchange them for a slightly different style of skirt that looks a little less casual, and I think a bit longer. 1. My first day at work was uneventful but good. Just the way I like it. My office is located in a former home ec/family consumer science classroom. I joked that I could bring in my laundry and prep dinner whilst at work. That joke went over like a lead balloon. Moving on. Read the rest of this entry »

It was SO gorgeous out today. Truth be told the temperature was probably around 45 degrees, but it was sunny and pleasant, so when I got home from work, I threw the baby in the stroller and I went for a long walk. It felt so good to get outside and get some fresh air. We walked to a tiny little park, the highlight of which is the baby swings, but it was all snowed in. So I kept on walking, because I didn’t feel like dragging the huge-ass stroller over the equally huge-ass snowbank just to get into the park, let alone over to the swings.
