About Us
Sisters Supporting Sisters,
Inc. (SSS) is a nonprofit, publicly supported
charitable organization created to improve
the lives of at risk girls. Founded in
1997 in Capitol Heights, Maryland, SSS
provides opportunities that support, encourage
and strengthen girls aged 12 to 17, with
programs that focus on three critical issues:
Empowerment
Leadership
Self-Esteem
SSS programs are offered in a variety of educational
formats including After-School programs, Saturday
Camps,
and summer Camps.
Why is SSS important?
All of us agree it is tough to
be a teenager these days. And it's even
tougher to be a teenage girl. Research has
shown that when girls reach adolescence, they
begin to realize how difficult it is to retain a
sense of themselves as healthy, strong,
independent, intelligent young women.
SSS uses a holistic approach to
help girls deal with such problems as
loneliness, boredom, lack of goals, low self
esteem, parental neglect, drugs, alcohol,
violence, gangs, teen pregnancy, media
exploitation, and lack of positive role
models.
It is our vision to create a fun,
stress-free learning environment where girls are
encouraged to succeed academically, socially and
professionally.
